Will The Talks Ever Die?
Michael Jordan is the best basketball player in the Universe. How many times have we heard this phrase? If you are surrounded by NBA fans, it is likely that you have heard this many times. A reason for this is because Michael was a great player. He showed that a perimeter player could dominate something that was not though to be possible. He was a great jump shooter and was a terrific driver. He redefined the term, clutch and the term air. He also broke records, led his team to 6 NBA titles and much more. Enough said?
Now that this is repeated to you, is there any room for discussion. Yes there is. There are many great players like Wilt, Russell and Oscar Robinson who should get a fair share of talks for the best player of all time. Jordan was great but he was still human. He has weaknesses in his game; he was not a good three point shooter and was overly aggressive at times. If you want to add to this, you could say that Jordan was not a good team player. You could say that Wilt was more dominant. He was able to average over 50 points, scoring 4000 points in one year! Can anyone do this in this age of basketball? He also led the league in assists one year, unheard of, for a player his size! He scored a mind freezing 100 points in one year. He also averaged over 20 rebounds a year for some seasons.
On the other hand, you could say that Bill was better because he has 11 NBA titles and so much more. There will never be an end to who the best player of all time is. So many factors have to be taken into account and some variables cannot be controlled. Some could even say that if Jordan had played a few more years, the case would not be open for discussion. On the other hand, Wilt did let up and did not score many points later in his career.
With better players coming up like Lebron, the league will get a fair chance to see great talent. We can only be happy for what these players have done and to know that Jordan was one of the best.
